Giving back to the Education community

Endsleigh was formed in 1965 by the National Union of Students and we are proud to have over 50 years’ experience in the education sector. We insure over 800 schools, colleges and universities in the UK and our heritage is an important part of the company we are today.

We are therefore delighted to partner with Bookmark Reading Charity, a charity creating flexible volunteering at the heart of our communities, to help children develop the reading skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.

As part of Endsleigh’s commitment to giving back to the education community, 1% of all premiums paid to Endsleigh by independent schools, parents and fee payers is donated to Bookmark.1

Bookmark Reading Charity

Bookmark launched in 2018 and following a successful pilot in Camden, their reading programmes are being rolled out in London during 2019 and nationwide in 2020. Bookmark’s six-week reading programme consists of two, face-to-face 30-minute sessions each week at a primary school, with a child who needs extra support with their reading.

Their digital platform matches schools with fully safeguarded, vetted and trained reading volunteers in the local community - making it easier for schools to get the extra support they need. Schools have flexibility to decide which children will take part in the programme and for how long (six weeks, twelve weeks, or more).

Bookmark’s volunteers arrange reading sessions via a mobile app and chat to other volunteers online - making it an easy way to fit volunteering around other commitments. To learn more about Bookmark, donate or become a Bookmark volunteer, please visit www.bookmarkreading.org

“Bookmark’s organisation and reliability is hugely impressive and all safeguarding procedures were thorough... the volunteers were well prepared, caring and unrelentingly positive. ” — Marianne, Headteacher

“I can honestly say it’s been one of the best things I’ve ever done... thank you for the opportunity to help make a difference.” — Leah, Bookmark volunteer
